Fall in Love with Yourself

How many times do we attempt to achieve a sense of fulfilment by reaching out to something or someone in hope that they will complete us in some way?

Our journey through life takes us on a roller coaster of experiences and emotions and sometimes we just need that temporary sweet relief of what another person, food, a chemical substance or a material possession can bring. But how do we achieve long lasting fulfilment? How do we fill our cup up, fill our inner being, so that we may serve ourselves and others from our overflow?

Let’s look at a relationship between two people. Two unique individuals come together with the hope and expectation that the other person can help to complete who they are. We’ve all done it! We put on our best show, put on our most attractive mask, and in the beginning the relationship is wonderful. Then after a while, the effort becomes quite tiring and the mask comes down. True feelings, thoughts, habitual patterns and emotions are exposed.

‘This person was supposed to love me, make me feel good, make me feel loved.’ Blame and resentment are mixed with insecurity and self-doubt. These heavy emotions feed back to the brain and we find ourselves in a loop of thoughts driving feelings and those feelings reinforcing our thoughts.

Blame is truly one of most self-destructive forms of energy. Blaming someone else for our situation, we strengthen the invisible bars around our own being.

If we are to start a new relationship with anyone, whether it be a business, friendship or a love partnership we must enter into the relationship with the promise to ourselves that we will continue to work on our own self development. And if we’re struggling with self-doubt, limiting beliefs or a problem in an area of our life, know that it is our own responsibility. Whilst love and support from another person is food for our soul, we must take responsibility for our feelings, thoughts, choices, behaviours and actions.

We’re all a work in progress. Meditation, yoga, long walks, music and acquiring knowledge are all ways to assist us to become the best version of ourselves. Being grateful for the non-material things in our life changes our thoughts and feelings and as a result raises our energy. And if we choose to be the observer of our own thoughts as we travel through each day, we can truly shine the light of awareness on our own negative thought patterns.

Ask throughout the day, is this thought loving to me? Be kind to yourself, take responsibility for the parts of you that need to be filled up. And when your cup is full, enjoy the beauty in giving to others from your overflow.

Namaste
